Critical
Active killer
CCMS-SEC-SOP-001 §10.1
Decide the play beforehand so no one is inventing it during gunfire. An untrained team member can escalate a loud argument into a decade of explaining. Security is not the mission. The mission is the Word. This tree keeps wolves from interrupting it.
Call 911 now. Do not debate this.
Give location, problem, and send a runner to meet EMS at the watched entry.
- 1
First person who sees it says it: location, description, weapon, direction of travel. Plain language. 'Shooter, west door' beats a color code invented years ago.
- 2
Lot / approach post tries to keep the problem outside. That is the whole point of the outside set of eyes.
- 3
Interior team moves to the threat or to the children, depending on assignment — not everyone runs to the gunfire and leaves the classrooms naked.
- 4
Pastor overwatch extracts the pastor off the platform toward cover. The sermon is over. Safe interior room if one exists; otherwise a pre-planned room or vehicle.
- 5
AV booth: lights, a short stay-seated or exit-away-from-threat instruction if it can be done without herding people into the killer's path.
- 6
When law enforcement arrives the team becomes compliant armed civilians. Expect to be treated as suspects until sorted. Empty hands visible, gun on the deck or holstered, verbal identification, comply with the first officer's commands.
Do not
- Do not form a debate circle on stage.
- Do not give interviews. No one speaks to the media or gives a detailed recorded statement without the Safety Director and church counsel. 'I will cooperate fully after I speak with counsel' is the line.
- Ego after a shooting gets people killed or indicted.
This field guide does not replace 911, a medical director, or licensed clinical judgment. It does not authorize anyone to practice beyond license and current training.
