Vomiting or diarrhea

CCMS-MED-SOP-001 §14

Sort the dangerous causes first. Most of this is a parent, a bathroom, and hygiene. Some of it is a surgical abdomen or a head injury.

Call 911 if: with severe pain, neuro change, bloody stool, infant who will not take fluids, or a toxic appearance.

  1. 1

Position of comfort. Small sips if they want them and there is no surgical or head-trauma story.

  2. 2

Isolate the bathroom if this looks infectious. Hygiene. Do not let a vomiting child back onto shared toys.

  3. 3

Tums only after you have considered ACS in an adult. Antimotility drugs stay on the shelf if there is fever, blood, or a young child.
