Wound care
Ordinary cut or abrasion
CCMS-MED-SOP-001 §6.3
Irrigate, pressure, dress. Most playground wounds live here. They still get documented.
- 1
Gloves. Irrigate with clean water or saline. Remove obvious dirt you can see.
- 2
Pressure, then a clean dressing. Elevate if it helps and there is no fracture concern.
- 3
Find the parent. Tetanus is a clinic question, not a hallway guess — send them if the wound is dirty or the history is unknown.
Do not
- Do not put hemostatic gauze on a minor scrape.
- Do not close a bite or a puncture with tape and call it done.
- Watch: numbness, facial wounds, bites, blood thinners. Those escalate.
- Punctures and animal/human bites: higher care, not a Band-Aid and a blessing.
